Local Fabrics is a business concept for a company to uses local waste and re-processes them into materials that can be made into products such as clothing or other products that can be found at home such as a coffee cup. As a tangible demonstrator three fragments of recycled materials were made. The three materials are fabric made from hemp, leather made from fruit and paper leather.
Local Fabrics was my second design project and a cherished one. I joined the "Crafting Everyday Soft Things" squad, blending my passion for clothing and fashion with design. Eager to create, I embraced the project's hands-on learning approach. I crafted an outfit from recycled materials, transforming old clothes with waste items like plastic bags. Another teammate experimented with natural materials, leading us to focus on reprocessing waste into fabrics.
Our final product was a business concept for repurposing local waste into usable materials for clothing and home goods. We showcased this by creating recycled material samples on a lampshade. I improved in Creativity & Aesthetics, Technology & Realization, and Business & Entrepreneurship. Although the business concept had flaws, the project was a fun and valuable learning experience.
